PLAY: DJ Hero

Attempting to capitalize on the rising popularity of music games over the past few years (Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Dance Dance Revolution), Activision has released DJ Hero, a DJ simulation game. DJ Hero can be purchased in standard and renegade editions. Both editions contain the same game, but the renegade edition includes a fancy turntable stand and a Jay-Z/Eminem double CD, and the renegade edition's turntable is made of superior material. The game contains 93 songs, featuring an impressive variety of artists from Daft Punk, Rihanna, and Gorillaz to the Jackson 5, the Beastie Boys and Cypress Hill. Having played the game for a few hours, I can confirm that it is a lot of fun and a great party game. Although I have no experience on the real life 1's and 2's, in my opinion the game's use of cross-fading and scratching provides a strong simulation of what a DJ does. The renegade edition ($200) is not cheap, but as a home entertainment piece it is well worth the money. Overall: 95/100.
